We think Demi Lovato is Right to take a stand re North Carolina's Bathroom Laws

Demi Lovato has been a prominent voice indeed in the fight against North Carolina's stupid 'bathroom laws', which are currently opposed by the Obama administration. Not only has she cancelled her recent concerts in the state (i.e. putting her beliefs ahead of financial gain), she is also selling a new shirt supporting 'bathroom equality', one which she has worn recently in her shows. Some have questioned why she is taking such dramatic action.

(A bit of background here: North Carolina has proposed new laws rigidly stating that one cannot legally enter a bathroom for the opposite sex, which is clearly aimed at the transgender population. There is clearly no need for this type of laws, apart from making life hard for some people.)

We think it's important for us to stand up against the bullying of minorities, and it's even more important for people who have a large audience reach to do so. Nothing will change, if we all just stay silent or half-heartedly voice our opinions and do nothing else. Thanks to people like Demi, more people have learnt about this issue, and are pressuring states like NC not to proceed with such stupid actions. So good on you, Demi!

Demi Lovato Profile: The Last One Standing

Of the rising young stars of the late 00s, Demi Lovato stood out the least for me. At that time, Miley Cyrus was probably the standout, and Selena Gomez had plenty of success too. Both Miley and Selena had their respective Disney shows, which I didn't watch because I was certainly too old for it, but their music did register well. Miranda Cosgrove also released a few great hits that made quite an impression, even though I was really WAY too old to appreciate iCarly. Demi, on the other hand, never really hit my radar in any way.

Fast forward five years. Amongst her peers, Demi is now the one I most respect. This is especially true after Selena did Springbreakers and the 'new Miley' happened. She's the 'last one standing' of the three from Disney, really. But that's not the whole story. She's come through a tough time in life, and is now using her experience to help others. She's speaking out about the reality of drug addiction, whilst the rest of Hollywood just pretends that there isn't an issue about that. She's doing some important work out there, in other words.

Let It Go by Idina Menzel / Demi Lovato - after going through Google Translate

Disney's Frozen is a major box office success, and Let It Go from its soundtrack, available in both the Idina Menzel and Demi Lovato versions, has become a major hit.

But how does it sound when you put it through Google translate, cycling through a few very different languages and back to English again? Let's have a look.

Here are the originals, again:

And this is how it looks like after the translation:

Wow! Just wow!

Demi Lovato Wants Music and Film to Stop Glamorising Drugs

As news of Philip Seymour Hoffman's death spread quickly, many celebrities also paid their tributes. One of them was Demi Lovato.

But unlike many others, she was brave enough to face and talk about the disease that has taken too many lives already. "I wish more people would lose the stigma and treat addiction as the deadly and serious DISEASE that it is. Drugs are not something to glamorize in pop music or film to portray as harmless recreational fun," she wrote on Twitter.

Here at Sunny Apple, we think we really need a major society-wide conversation on this topic. Another year, and another tragedy, and yet society and culture should just sit there and do nothing? We don't think so.

Demi Lovato has Respect for Taylor Swift

The Hollywood shock value scene is getting more disgusting by the minute. It's in the performances, it's in the music videos, it's even in the lyrics of some songs. My 'boycott list' is growing larger by the year. Fortunately, there are still plenty of artists who would never do things like that.

Taylor Swift is perhaps one of the best examples of a genuine artist who doesn't get involved in the crazy side of Hollywood, and Demi Lovato wants to follow in her footsteps.

“She's like, 'Well, I don’t go out.' I don’t go out to clubs and I don’t party and to me, it says more when you don’t have to do things for shock value. You're more respected as an artist. And that’s what I want to be, I want to be respected as an artist and not a tabloid headline," Demi told Entertainment Weekly recently.

I think being real and having decency standards are a large part of Taylor Swift's popularity. In this regard, Demi Lovato is definitely on the right track. I am pleased to see that she will continue to follow this path faithfully into the future.

Demi Lovato to Join Glee

It has been reported that Demi Lovato will guest star in Glee in the upcoming season. There have also been reports of a planned duet with Naya Rivera!

I think it's great news. It's Demi chance to shine in a role that suits her, I think. As I said last year, I believe she wasn't ready for X-Factor, and that she still isn't. Glee is another game however. It's something that she can take her singing talent and shine in.

I will definitely be looking forward to it!

Demi Lovato Says Drug Addiction is a Disease

In the aftermath of the tragic death of Cory Monteith, people are now having a discussion about drug addiction and its associated tragedies.

Demi Lovato, having been through similar struggles herself, has joined the conversation. "It's not a choice. Nobody chooses to use. He didn't choose to die. It was the disease. It can creep up on you at any moment. It only takes one moment of relapse to potentially die. It's really scary, but I'm really hoping that from this, people are able to see this is a very, very, very dangerous disease," she told PEOPLE recently.

I agree it's a disease, and it needs attention. I think it's a good thing people are waking up to this problem. We don't want any more tragedies.

Demi Lovato Launches Foundation in Honour of Father

Demi Lovato has launched a foundation to provide a scholarship program for the mentally ill, in honour of her father, who passed away recently.

Demi had been estranged from her father, but that hasn't affected her decision, it seems. "My father and I didn't have the most ideal relationship, but at the end of the day he's still my dad and I grew up with him. He's a wonderful person," she said.

I think it's important to honour your parents when you can, no matter what your relationship was like. So good on Demi.

Perez Hilton's 'Best Breakup Songs'

Perez Hilton has released a 'best breakup songs' list on his website, featuring 30 of his picks of this category.

And I have to say I don't agree with many of them. Number one was Beyonce's Irreplaceable, which was okay, but far from 'best' in my opinion. I hate Pink's Just Like A Pill for obvious reasons. Finally, Demi Lovato's Give Your Heart a Break probably isn't even a breakup song at all.

Demi Lovato to Help Young Girls with Eating Disorders

Demi Lovato recently told Cosmo mag that she wishes to use her experience with her eating disorder to help young girls going through eating disorders.

I guess that's a noble cause. Eating disorders are often neglected, and it's time more attention is paid.
